My first idea for this unit was discoverd on a poster for Plastics network.org showing at the Russell cotes in Bournemouth September to November 2005. On the poster was a picture of a 3D View Master. Iam fond of early 60's 70's 80's retro products, to revive an Icon would be facinating.
I began to think about old products that could be modernized and be made digital. I spoke with Anthony Roe about my initial idea and what it could be used for and the need I t could hold in the home. The problems with this idea from the out set is the single use of this device.
I had a re-think and decided to go for a more business like device. I decided to produce a menu style device that can be used in a restaurant or a shop i.e. comet etc.
The wireless device will source its information from a main database like products or a restaurant food menu that can be updated quickly allowing real-time information updates and support like stock availability or something like "sorry we are out of chocolate ice cream".
A waiter or shop assistant will use the device to locate the information (via a type of menu) for a customer and process the required order or purchase from a single unit as opposed to a till or notepad order.
Once a product say a TV in this case is ordered, the customer can also pay with this system allowing a chip and pin transfer from the same (PDA?) unit. A receipt could be sent to print or an emailed receipt could be sent to the customer.
I have seen a similar system in use but it had floors to it and the device was bulky and needed a cradle. It also didn't have a lot of functionality.
This movie here kind of supports the idea nicely but as more of and installation.
